Mošćenice: A lesson in letting go

Last summer, Jose and I spent some time in Istria, Croatia. We stayed in a very tiny village called Selce, which is near the hilltop town of Mošćenice. From our balcony, we had a nice view of Kvarner bay and the island of Cres. I brought along my Pentax K-1000 camera and several rolls of film, and I was excited to take capture the spectacular nature of the northern Adriatic coast. However, after shooting two rolls of film, I noticed that my camera had not been working, and all of the images I had taken were lost. I was devastated.

As a film photographer, you learn to expect that misfortunes like this will happen from time to time. It is one of the sacrifices you have to make. But still, it was hard for me to accept the fact that all of those beautiful memories and moments had disappeared and could never be relived again through a photograph. The next morning (our last day in Selce), I woke up extra early so that I could photograph at least some part of our trip. The sun is the most beautiful in the early morning and late afternoon. Below are the few images that I managed to capture that morning. There are not many of them, but at least they will allow me to hold on to our beautiful experience in Istria for a little bit longer.
